General questions

What do the numbers mean?

The first number, for example 8 in 8x24 UCF G, is the magnification of the binoculars, and the second is the diameter of the objective lens - the lens that looks at your subject.

Should I always buy the highest magnification?

Higher magnifications can bring your subject very close indeed, but remember a shaky image is more likely. It's a good idea to put high power binoculars on a tripod, and you need a Pentax tripod adaptor to do this.

What does PCF stand for?

PCF stands for Porroprism Centre Focussing. Porroprism describes the layout of the lenses and prisms inside the binoculars.

What does DCF stand for?

DCF stands for Dach Centre Focussing. Dach is German for roof, and this style of binoculars is also called 'Roof prism'.

What does UCF stand for?

Most abbreviations are standard among the major binocular manufacturers, but UCF is unique to Pentax. It could stand for 'Ultra-compact Centre Focussing.'
